Documents You'll Need for a Personal Loan
The standard identity, address and income documents lenders ask for, and why each one matters.
Personal loan documentation is usually the same handful of items across most lenders, though exact requirements vary. Having these ready before you start speeds up the process considerably.
Identity and address proof
A PAN card is required by virtually every lender for a loan in India, since it's tied to your income tax and credit history. Alongside it, you'll typically need one address proof document — commonly an Aadhaar card, passport, voter ID, or a recent utility bill.
Income proof
What's needed here depends on your employment type:
- Salaried applicants usually provide their last 2–3 months' salary slips and Form 16 or the latest income tax return.
- Self-employed applicants typically provide income tax returns for the last 2–3 years, along with business proof (registration certificate, GST filings, or similar).
Bank statements
Most lenders ask for your last 3–6 months of bank statements from the account your salary or business income is credited to. This lets them see your actual cash flow and existing EMI debits, which feeds directly into the FOIR calculation covered in our FOIR guide.
A photograph and signature
A recent passport-size photograph and a specimen signature are standard requirements for the application form itself, though many digital application flows now capture these electronically.
Having clear, recent, correctly named copies of all of the above before you start your application on FynnEdge means there's nothing left to chase once you've selected a lender.
